Spread over almost one hundred acres of land, this site once used for Asian Games 1982, needed extensive upgradation and renewed master planning to accommodate at the same time two more indoor stadia vis-a-vis wrestling and the velodrome for the Commonwealth Games of 2010. Intense coordination was required to cater to the expected large number of spectators and overlapping user groups, interweaved around 1,000 mature trees at site, thus making this a challenging yet extremely satisfying project. Urban plazas designed are interlaced through the random tree positions that provided not only shaded pockets but also adding a labyrinth of green on the paving walks. The sweep of the main pedestrian spine, a central celebration plaza, robust detailing and use of colored pavers to enhance ceremonial effect, are the key aspects of the designed landscape here.
